HOW TO APPLY
If you are interested in becoming a member of the Durham County Sheriff's Office, applications for Detention Officer, Deputy Sheriff, Telecommunicator, and Civilian positions are available online. To apply for any of the listed positions, please click on the link provided below. You will be redirected to the Durham County Human Resources site. Once there, create an account to apply for law enforcement, detention, or civilian positions. If you have any questions, please email the Training & Recruitment Division for certified positions or Human Resources for civilian support staff. Your application for employment will be forwarded to the hiring manager for review. You will be contacted for an interview if selected as a qualified candidate. All applicants must sign a release and will be subject to a background check before hiring. The length of time the hiring process takes varies from approximately 60 days for civilian candidates to approximately 120 days for certified positions. Applicants for certified positions who are denied employment at any stage of the application process must wait a period of one year from the date of notification before they can reapply for the position. Refer to your notification letter before applying.
